  Again we are going to Monte Carlo playing at the Worldchampionship of Backgammon. This year I won't publish a blog at this page but write some reports including photos and tournament ladder at GammonVillage.

 Nonetheless a few words about the tournament. It was my 5th participation and again it went pretty well so far. The first year I attended I won the beginners tournament. In 1998 at my second participation I advanced to the semifinal and lost against the new worldchampion Michael Meyburg. Ten years later I had kind of a deja vu. Again I somehow managed to win six matches in a row. The most interesting match was probably a seven hour battle with former world champion Jon Royset from Norway.

  This year I wanted to make it better in the round of last 4, but far from it. I played horrible and there also were some incidents during the match unworthy of a SF in the Worldchampionship. You may read here what happened during the match.  There were also some problems during the final of the worldchampionship, see GammonVillage again and a thread at bgonline for some details.

 Though it was tough work during the week, playing and sending reports to GammonVillage, it was a great experience. After 15 years I met Paul van Dijke again and we all (Paul, Rogier, Steffi and me) had a great time with lots of excellent dinners. BTW, we all went into the money!
