In the morning of day 4 Mochy and Jakob Garal played the semifinal of the Monte Carlo qualifier on Jakob Garal's inventive board. Jakob (Aachen, Germany) built a backgammon board with sensors for recording your games. You can either roll the dice manually, use computer generated dice or a "prepared" list (like the seed in gnubg There is also an interface to operate the rolls and cube decisions.

Board and noteobook communicate via bluetooth

Of course the interface is a little buggy and needs some improvements, but it's still a prototype. Anyway, in chess DEGT boards that transfer the position, moves and time usage to either closed tv curcuits or to the internet. And perhaps we'll find ourselves playing at these new backgammon boards in 5 years.

The user interface (sorry that it's a bit blurred)

An interesting position from the Nations cup as an appetizer:

The score (after 0 games) is: white 9, green 6 (match to 13 points)
green on roll, cube decision?

I finally made up my mind playing more backgammon today and registered Oystein and me to the consultation doubles and also to the upcomming team event. There is also a big poker tournament in the Casino tonight (2,000,- DK), and I might show up there. The semifinals of winners and losers brackets will start at 2pm.

Here you'll find my recorded matches:

Wiebusch chose not to cube. He rolled a 21 (2/off, 1/off), Nielsen followed with a 21 (9/6). Wiebusch thought again for a while, doubled and decided the game with a 55.
